Last week, staff and students participated in Right to Read week activities. Our student council members selected the themes for each day, including pajama day and twin day. Students received Dr. Seuss stickers and each classroom will be getting new Dr. Seuss books for students to read. In addition to the above activities, the students and staff members were blessed with Ms. Debbie Mohney and Mrs. Debbie Miller as guest readers. In keeping with our building theme for this month, our family literacy night featured activities involving animals. Crafts, Scavenger hunts, gross motor games, and a visit from Alley Park were some of the fun ways students read and learned about animals. Prior to the stations beginning, families were provided dinner and had an opportunity to have their pictures taken with animal-themed backgrounds. A fun night was had by all!
Recently, the Columbus Zoo visited the staff and students of Union Furnace Elementary. The presenters spoke to students about animal adaptations. Some of the animals included a porcupine, an armadillo, an owl and a snake. A fun time was had by all!

The staff and students of Union Furnace Elementary would like to thank Mrs. Joyce for all she does for the students and staff in our building. Third grade students worked in cooperative groups practicing with area and perimeter during Math. Teachers created games and hands on activities for the students to complete with each other. It was a fun and engaging lesson for students.
Union Furnace Dress Your Best Lunch was a huge success! Christmas Break is almost here & these students & staff are celebrating in style! The students were so proud of their attire & those who simply forgot, weren't left out, as the photo booth props were available for all, giving each the option to choose which suited them best -Santa's hat or beard, top hat, bow tie, or other Christmas fun! Thank you to all who made this special event possible.
Staff and students, dressed in their favorite holiday attire, spent the day rotating throughout the building to different holiday themed stations. Students had opportunities to create an edible Christmas tree, play snowman bingo, design holiday cards, and participate in many other fun activities. Happy Holidays from the staff and students of Union Furnace Elementary!
Many Union Furnace Elementary families joined us to celebrate a great group of students at our Student of the Month ceremony, which was held prior to our PTO meeting. Each month, teachers select students who consistently come to school with a positive attitude, relate well to their peers and teachers, follow school rules, and put forth a strong effort with their studies. Congratulations to these amazing students.
Kindergarten students participated in a Thanksgiving feast with their families earlier in the week. Prior to the feast, the students learned about Thanksgiving through a variety of activities.
