On January 25, Logan High School held their annual Poetry Out Loud competition. 18 students from English and Theater classes participated in the event. Poetry Out Loud is a national poetry recitation competition supported by the Poetry Foundation and the National Endowment for the Arts. All high school students are eligible to participate and must compete in a school competition to attain a spot in the regional and state level contests. The high school of each state's champion receives $500 for the purchase of poetry books and state champions each receive $200, as well and a trip to National Finals in April, which located in Washington D.C. A total of $50,000 in awards and school stipends are awarded annually at the National Finals.

This year's Poetry Out Loud winners at LHS are: First Place-Kayla Cordle (Grade 12); Second Place-Gracie Miller (Grade 10); and Third Place-Katie Maccabee (Grade 9). As the school champion, Kayla Cordle will compete in the Southeastern Ohio regional competition in Nelsonville, on February 17th, where she will have the opportunity to advance to Ohio's Poetry Out Loud state competition.
