Read Across America Day at UF
Union Furnace Elem.
Submitted by: Mr. Novar

Thursday was Read Across America Day, celebrated annually on March 2 in recognition of Dr. Seuss's birthday. Union Furnace Elementary students celebrated by wearing their pajamas to school and participating in "Drop Everything and Read" for the last 30 minutes of the school day. The activity was intended to foster a love of reading by encouraging students to simply stop whatever they were doing, relax, and find some time to read a book that they enjoy. School staff were all encouraged to participate as well. Some teachers read aloud to a group of students while others gave their classrooms the option to read by themselves or with a friend. We opened our classroom doors and let the kids choose an area where they would be most comfortable reading. The kids and staff had a great time, and Dr. Seuss books seemed to be the most popular materials that day!
