The Logan-Hocking Board of Education recognizes excellence in our school district. There are many excellent people in our school system, both staff and students whose endeavors need to be recognized and publicized.
Recently, Cathye Flory was a recipient of a college scholarship that she donated to the Muskingum Valley Educational Service Center, with the stipulation that it be awarded to a Logan student. Evan Reed, a senior at Logan High School was selected for the scholarship. Evan is the son of Will and Beth Reed. He plans to attend Ohio University in the fall and is excited about what the future holds.
The Directors of the Martha Holden Jennings Foundation established the Ohio Superintendent Outstanding Performance Award to honor a public school Superintendent. In order to be considered, the President of the Local Board of Education must nominate the Superintendent. Candidates must have a Master’s Degree and show evidence of Service to the school district, contributions in the field of education, service to the community and honors or awards for service to the field of education or the community.
The Logan-Hocking Middle School Math Counts Team was recognized at the May 20th Board of Education Meeting. The following Logan-Hocking Retirees were recognized at the May 20th Board of Education Meeting: Ann Rolston, Barb Smith, Crystal Woltz, Margaret Graham, Paul Owings, Debbie Klinebriel, Ronda Dickerson, Debbie Mohney, and Jim Bartholomew.
Through Ohio’s new Schools of Honor program, the Ohio Department of Education is recognizing 90 schools that have sustained high academic achievement and made substantial progress while serving a significant number of economically disadvantaged students. Four of our Elementary Schools are being recognized.
As part of the Endless Summer Program, there will be Free Lunches offered to children ages 17 and under in June and July again this year. The lunches will be served at Central Elementary School starting Monday, June 3rd, and will continue Monday through Thursday, from 10am to 1pm. through July 31st. Lunches will be served at the High School June 3-20, July 15-18, and August 12-15 from 10am to 1pm. Adults can purchase a lunch for $2.
Three Logan-Hocking School buildings have been recognized for energy efficiency with the Energy Star Certification Award given by the Environmental Protection Agency. The buildings that now display the Energy Star logo at the front entrance are Logan High School, Logan- Hocking Middle School and Central Elementary. These buildings are the largest consumers of utilities in the district.
Hocking Hills Elementary School chess club had a five round chess tournament in which twenty students participated. The top 3 students from the tournament were - first place was Mark Duke (fourth grade); second place was Ashton Mason (first grade); third place was Dakota McGee (third grade). The chess club advisor is Mrs. Sharon Shaya.
Emily Starlin and William Brooks have been selected as Logan High School’s Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership (HOBY) Ambassadors. They were chosen based on their essays and leadership skills.
