Dr. Seuss was the center of the activities and themes that the students and staff participated in throughout the week to celebrate Read Across America. Whether students were eating green eggs and ham, drawing their favorite Dr. Seuss character or wearing their pajamas to school for one of our theme days, the students and staff members had a great time combining literacy with laughter and art.
The Kindergarten students at Union Furnace Elementary celebrated their 100th day of school today. Rita Reis and Gretchen McKenzie, our Kindergarten teachers, created engaging lessons and activities for their students. All of the activities incorporated the number 100 and allowed students to work together in pairs and in small groups. One fun lesson allowed the students to create a necklace using 100 fruit loops! Learning is always fun at Union Furnace Elementary!
The Family Literacy night scheduled for Tuesday, February 6, 2018 is being cancelled. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and once a new date is selected for our literacy night, we will share the information with our families. Dressed as Pilgrims and Native Americans, the kindergarten students participated in a Thanksgiving feast with their families. Prior to the feast, the students learned about Thanksgiving through read alouds, writing, art, and video clips. Happy Thanksgiving from the staff and students of Union Furnace Elementary!
On Tuesday, November 14, 2017, the fourth grade students led staff, students, and community members in an assembly honoring Veterans.
