School Breakfast Celebration Media Event

Early March, the Logan-Hocking School district celebrated National School Breakfast Week, in an effort to help raise awareness of the importance of school breakfast. As part of this celebration, last Wednesday, Chieftain Elementary hosted a media event to honor our partners & showcase the impact the $90,000 Breakfast in the Classroom grant has had on our elementary students. Currently, all (5) of our Logan-Hocking Elementary Schools receive a free breakfast at school.

Thank you to all who took time out of their day to witness what Chieftain and all our Elementary Schools do every morning. Thank you to all the key players involved in the grant process & the staff that has successfully implemented the breakfast in each elementary school in the district. Huge thank you to Brenda Lemon for passionately leading the way on this incredible project & to Debbie Heath & Mr. Bainter for their combined energy & support of the breakfast program.

As we shared earlier in the month, this past year, LHSD became the first South-Eastern Ohio district to be awarded a grant from the Partners for Breakfast in the Classroom -a joint initiative from the Food Research & Action Center (FRAC), National AssocIation of Elementary School Principals (NAESPF), the NEA Foundation & School Nutrition Foundation (SNF) -to increase participation in the School Breakfast Program. Additionally, Children's Hunger Alliance (CHA), plays a vital role in this program, by assisting greatly with the grant process & pilot. Walmart Foundation made it all possible, by funding the grant.
