Submitted by: Gretchen Gregory/Dani Bell

If you drive by Worthington Park, in Downtown Logan, you will see the Gazebo area is temporarily decked out in blue. Pinwheels and bows have been placed in support of April being National Child Abuse Prevention Month. According to the Hocking County Prosecutor’s Office, in Hocking County in 2018: 609 reports of child abuse or neglect were made to children services – 340 resulted in investigations. There were 735 victims of crime – 82 were children.

On Tuesday, April 9th, 2019, at noon, community members and local agencies gathered at Worthington Park to recognize child victims and all victims of crime, as part of National Crime Victims’ Rights Week and Child Abuse Prevention Month, with speakers and a pinwheel placement ceremony.

-Activated Local Anonymous Tip line (740-385-SAFE)
-SRO’s present in most buildings and trained in Botvin Life Skills
-District Safety Team meets monthly to discuss issues that include opioid problems in our schools & community.
-CIP Committee looks at baseline data on drug occurrences and measures each year against that data.
-Staff Training for signs of drug abuse through Public School Works program
-New Student-led Prevention Initiative through Foundation for Appalachian Ohio
-Community Partnering with mental health agencies.
