Students Take Ownership Of Their Learning
Central Elementary
Submitted by: Mrs. Van Horn

Students in Mrs. Maniskas' First Grade class at Central Elementary practice addition and subtraction "Popcorn Math Facts" daily with a partner. On Fridays, they take tests over the math facts they have practiced. They set goals for themselves and chart their progress weekly. Also, the students worked together to set classroom goals. Students earn popcorn during lunch when they reach their personal goals. In addition, the whole class earns a popcorn party when class goals are achieved. Students are learning to take control of their learning, set individual and classroom goals and work to achieve these goals.
