On Thursday, February 9, 2017 the Chief Logan FFA traveled to Gallia Academy High School to compete in the District 10 Public Speaking Contests. Chief Logan was represented by four students in different categories. Bethany Starlin competed in the Prepared Speaking contest, which involves delivering a six to eight minute speech that has been written and memorized ahead of time. Ryan Patton competed in the Beginning Prepared Speaking contest which also involved delivering a memorized speech between five to seven minutes. Riley Van Bibber competed in the Extemporaneous Speaking event, which required him to pull a topic from a hat and deliver a four to six minute speech after only 30 minutes of research and preparation. Caitlyn Myers participated in the Creed Speaking contest, which involves delivering the FFA Creed and answering question about the creed.
All of the Chief Logan students placed in the top three with Starlin placing first in Prepared, Van Bibber placing first in Extemporaneous, Patton placing third in Beginning Prepared, and Myers placing third in the Creed speaking. Starlin and Van Bibber will both be traveling to Marysville High School to compete in the State Public Speaking contest on March 4th.
